The authority is in the name not the blood
The blood of Jesus shed on the cross makes the provision for everything else because the shed blood of Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins. And as a result of having our sins paid for and covered and washed away by the blood of Jesus then that brings us into a position of being sons of God by adoption, we’re no longer separated from God like the people were in the before Christ days. But the Scriptures are crystal clear that our authority is in the name of Jesus and the problem is people fall into the trap of thinking that they can say the blood of Jesus as a weapon and it’s not because when you’re dealing in warfare, warfare is all based on authority and our authority is in the name of Jesus. People, when they feel that they are being threatened, they think it’s a weapon to state “I cover myself with the blood of Jesus”. That is actually an error because the instant you are saved you come under the covering of that blood and you never come out from underneath it unless you lose your salvation which I think is very difficult to do. And so you’re not freshly covering yourself with something that’s already there. Now, God honours the desires of our heart and when people are faced with a demon and they don’t know what to say and they yell “I plead the blood of Jesus and I cover myself with the blood of Jesus”, eventually God’s going to honour that and the demons will be defeated but you could do in 1/100th of the time if you would simply use your authority which is in the name of Jesus. And speak “in the name of Jesus you demons get off my back”. You know it’s that simple. So the blood of Jesus is the basis and the provision for everything. It’s the provision and the basis for our relationship with God, it’s the provision and the basis for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, it’s the provision and the basis for our salvation – it’s the base of everything and that’s how important the blood of Jesus is, but it’s not our weapon.
Luke 10:20 Even the demons are subject to us in Your name. So clearly even in that period of time Jesus was showing the disciples that the authority was in His name and in Mark 16:17 it says “these signs shall follow those who believe in me… in My Name they shall cast out demons”.
1 Corinthians 14:8 says “if a trumpet doesn’t make a clear sound how shall people know that they’re being called to war. Likewise you, if you do not speak words that are easy to understand, how shall it be known what you’re saying”. And this is another error that people fall into in terms of spiritual warfare, when they get into a tough situation they don’t want to have to face it so they back off and they think they’ll let the Holy Spirit do it and they start speaking in tongues. But when you’re in a nose to nose confrontation against a demon spirit you need to use your authority and command them to get out of there in the name of Jesus and not just speak in tongues. Now there is a time and a place for waring in tongues, this happens to intercessors at periods of time when they know that they’re interceding and they’re warring and they don’t know what to say and the Holy Spirit speaks for them in tongues but when you’re in a nose to nose confrontation you want the direct and the quickest and the most powerful route of dealing with the demon spirit and that’s in the name of Jesus. There are no scriptures giving you authority in the blood of Jesus, you only have scriptures giving you authority in the name of Jesus.
Note: Rebecca Brown has directly faced hard core Satanists and the forces of satan face to face for many years and has led many of these people from the clutches of satan into salvation. She says there are many people who write about spiritual warfare who have never brought someone out of hard core Satanism, those who’ve been involved in human sacrifice and brought them to Jesus Christ. God has shown her much more clearly the easy to follow strategies of spiritual warfare and dealing with difficult situations.
Can a person be filled with the Holy Spirit and have a demon spirit in them at the same time?
The facetious answer is a Christian can have anything they ask for.
You need to understand that when the Bible was written it was not divided up into chapters and verses and the problem is when we see a new verse and especially a new chapter we think one of two things is happening 1. There’s a change in subject matter or 2. there’s a change in time and setting. But that’s not always the case. Sometimes that is the case but not always and in this case it is not. So when you read scripture, you have to take it as a whole in context.
Now we have the story of the early church and they gathered together to pray
Acts 4:31 When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken and they were ALL filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Now the next portion of scripture is a description of what these spirit filled Christians did, correct? And it said…. Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul (this is all the result of all being filled with the Holy Spirit) and neither did anyone say that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common and with great power the apostles gave witness and so forth…… verse 34 nor was there anyone who lacked for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds and laid them at the apostles feet.
And then it started listing some of these all Holy Spirit filled Christians that sold their land, there was Joseph and there was Barnabas and there were others. Now in Chapter 5 there is no time break here and there is no subject change, we’re still talking about the “all filled with the Holy Spirit” people and the topic of what they did with their land. But a certain man named Ananias with Sapphira his wife sold a possession and he kept back part of the proceeds and his wife also being aware of it and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles feet. And Peter said, “Ananias why has satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds of the land for yourself. Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human being but to God”. When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died.
Ok…. We have to assume that Ananias was part of the “ALL who were filled with the Holy Spirit”, because this is ALL the same section of scripture. So here we have a spirit filled Christian who decided to sin and it was fatal for him.
You got to remember, demon spirits can’t just jump into you whenever they want to, you have to open a door and let them in and the door is sin. And the door in Ananias’ life was sin and Peter said satan has “filled your heart”. Now if I have a glass and I want to fill it with water am I going to pour the water inside the glass or outside? So where was satan? Inside Ananias and God struck him dead. Now this is a direct fulfilment of the solemn warning that Paul gives to us in the book of Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? Now let me ask you a question….. is this scripture addressed to Christians?..... and spirit filled Christians?
Verse 17…. If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is Holy which temple you are. You see Ananias was a temple of the Holy Spirit. Ananias chose to defile it through sin. He allowed satan to come into him and what happened?.... God destroyed him right there on the spot. There you have an example of a spirit filled Christian who became demon possessed if you will. And this is the problem, we want the Holy Spirit to move today in the same power that He moved in the book of Acts but you can see that if God poured out the Holy Spirit with the same power as He did in the book of Acts, He’d probably have to strike just about every person in the church dead. Why, because we’re not cleansing our lives. We need to cleanse our lives. We are running around with such defiled temples that it hinders the Holy Spirit from working. And people say a demon spirit cannot be in a Christian because the Holy Spirit is in there. And then they proceed to misquote 2 Corinthians Chapter 6:14 “Do not be unequally yolked together with unbelievers”. Why? “For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” This is not saying that evil can’t come in to someone who has the Holy Spirit, it’s saying, “YOU SHOULD NOT PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION WHERE IT CAN COME IN!!” People misquote this scripture by saying light and darkness cannot dwell together but that’s not what this says, it says what agreement, what communion has light and darkness. Don’t put yourself in a position where this type of defilement can happen.
Anointing Land
There’s a principle in God’s Word that comes out of the Old Testament where the Lord told Moses and He also told Joshua, He said wherever you shall plant the soul of your foot I will give to you. You can anoint land and sanctify it, that is dedicated unto the Lord and cleanse it even as God had instructed Moses to anoint the tabernacle and to sanctify it, to cleanse the tabernacle. You can do the same thing with the ground. Simply walk your property, walk around the edge of it and spray an oil line and proclaim that you are sanctifying that ground, that you are dedicating that ground to God.
There is no set formula but you can say: I anoint this land in the name of God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. I claim this land, I sanctify this land, I cleanse this land and I dedicate this land for the glory and purposes of Almighty God in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus I take authority over this land and command every curse to be broken and every demon to leave right now. Father I would now ask that You seal this land in the name of Jesus.
Anointing with Oil
Again you can anoint/sanctify your home with oil for the service of God in the name of God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
The oil represents the blood of Jesus Christ and the basis for it is the story of the Passover Lamb. You can also say “I’m placing my home under the covering of the blood of Jesus”. There are no set rituals or formulas, it’s as the Lord leads you. You are dedicating your home and the oil is a symbol. God has always used the oil as a symbol and there is nothing magical about the oil and there’s no power in the oil. Faith is the evidence of things not seen and so there’s no way that God is going to permit some sort of spiritual power to be placed in a physical object like the oil, that’s just contrary to his teaching. The oil is purely a symbol.
Multiple Personality Disorders
There is a tremendous amount of teaching and practice out there in psychological counselling that when people get into tremendously stressful situations that their personalities split and then they have a John and a Jane and a Joe etc living inside of them. I reject that and don’t agree. I believe that each one of those personalities is a demon spirit and the interesting thing of it is when you talk to people who are “multiples”, what happens is that the person loses contact with reality and one of these alter personalities takes over and does all kinds of stuff through them. That is a demon spirit taking over and it must be rejected. And another interesting thing about that when you talk to someone who has “Alters” as they call it or “multiple personality” and you say to them, “how do you know who’s in there?”, the answer is always one of the other personalities tells them or they manifest. Now all of that totally cuts across the way the Lord has shown me to do deliverance which I believe is firmly rooted in scripture.
Demon bites and Curses
The average person never runs into this but those who are deep into spiritual warfare and into deliverance may see people who literally receive physical wounds that are created by demon spirits and one of the most common of these is a wound that is a bite mark of some description. Most of things occur to most people during their sleep when they’re having a vivid dream which actually is an experience in the spirit realm and they wake up and they find it, that’s generally when it occurs. It’s directly from the spirit realm reaching into the physical realm. If you are receiving demonic wounds on a regular basis you need deliverance because demons should not be able to attack you that successfully. When their attack on you is successful or any time a person sends a curse against you and it is successful, your question needs to be “Lord where is the legal ground in my life?” because they should not be able to attack us successfully to that extent.
Is mental illness demonic?
A good bit of mental illness is chemical imbalance but there is also a significant amount of it that is demonic.
Schizophrenia
When you look at schizophrenia, it is the ultimate of self-centredness. Those people concentrate 100 percent and think about nothing but themselves 24/7. Every little sensation they feel in their body gets magnified all out of proportion because they think about nothing but themselves.
Depression
Much depression is demonic and much depression comes from a lazy undisciplined mind.
Brain Injury
People with Alzheimer’s, stroke victims, sufferers of retardation, or brain injury victims can act in ways where you think that they are possessed. They may swear, curse, become violent and do all manner of things that are not their normal selves. They are not demon possessed; what you’re seeing is the physical brain is no longer capable of controlling the sin nature and what you have to understand is everyone of us has a sin nature. There’s a part of us that wants to do only evil all the time. Now our brain controls that sin nature but when we get retarded, when we get brain damaged or something that physically deteriorates the brain those people can no longer control their sin nature. Don’t think your family member who is a Christian and acts this way is on their way to hell, they are not. You’re just seeing what it was that Jesus died for in the first place and be at peace and understand that God understands all of that. Everyone of us knows that, on a daily basis we have a struggle to control that sin nature. Now think what would happen if physically, that ability in your brain was removed, there’d be nothing but a stream of foulness coming out your mouth continually.
Children
We have a totally just and merciful God. I don’t believe God is going to throw a child that dies into hell because it hasn’t had the chance to accept Jesus as it’s saviour.
Astral Projection
Astral projection is a term that applies strictly to the occultic practice and in the occultic practice a person’s spirit leaves their body and travels. Their spirit body then sends back to their brain the images of what the spirit body is seeing and doing and that is done totally under demonic control. Now the problem comes in where if someone is into astral projection or has inherited the demon spirit that enables them to astral project, then when they accept Christ if they’re not aware of the need to get rid of that demon, they begin to do all kinds of travel in the spirit realm and have all kinds of spiritual experiences which they believe are from the Lord but they’re actually being deceived and these are not spiritual experiences from the Lord.
Christians can also be supernaturally transported physically and in the Spirit. For example, Ezekiel was transported from captivity in Babylon back to Jerusalem by the Spirit of the Lord to show him what went on in the temple. Acts 8 Philip preached to and baptised Ethiopian eunuch and the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away and the eunuch did not see him again.
Can you lose your salvation?
Yes, you can lose your salvation. The huge problem with this once saved, always saved doctrine is people feel free to live in active sin and never deal with it. The scripture says no adulterer shall enter into heaven. I would hate to be committing adultery and die in the act.
This is the total proof that you can lose your salvation:
Revelation 3:5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments and I will not blot out his name from the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father and before His angels.
Now to my understanding when your name is written in the book of life you are saved and you are going to heaven. Conversely, if your name is blotted out of the book of life, you’re not saved and you’re not going to heaven. So in order to have it blotted out, it has to be written there in the first place. So clearly it is possible to lose your salvation.
References – Hebrews 6,8 & 10 because each one of those chapters talks about falling away from the Lord. How do you come back? You repent, you ask God to forgive you and you continue on.
But on the other hand, don’t walk in fear that any little sin is going to lose your salvation. We need to be able to walk in the confidence that we are under the covering of the blood of Jesus and that we are walking in God’s grace. God’s grace does not give us the right to wilfully sin but once again….
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
So don’t believe you’ve lost your salvation every time you sin. I think a wilful turning of your back on the Lord and a wilful decision not to serve Him any longer bringing you to a place of denying Him, clearly that is a violation that will result in the loss of your salvation.
If God commands you to do something and you refuse to do it because you’re afraid, you’ve just denied Christ.
So there’s a balance in there and I don’t think there’s any hard line in the sand.
Sexual Immorality
E.g Let’s say you want to shack up with someone and engage in sexual immorality and never marry them but continue living with them or if you want to continue to use prostitutes and you may say Ok Lord please forgive me every time you do it but you certainly have said in your mind you’re going to do it again. To me that’s a wilful course of sin that puts you in a very dangerous position with the Lord. I’m not giving you a hard-set answer because I don’t believe there is one.
Dealing with your sin daily
It’s important that you crucify your flesh on a daily basis. Jesus said take up your cross daily and so dealing with your sin nature is something that you have to do on a daily basis. You have to resist sin every day of your life. We can stand secure that we are in the centre of God’s grace and mercy and under the covering of the blood of Jesus. But if you decide you don’t want to serve God anymore and you want to go out and you want to have a bunch of prostitutes and you want to do a bunch of this and that, wilful premeditated ongoing sin, I think you stand in danger of losing your salvation.
When you get saved and you’re dead in Christ, the total control of sin over you has been broken but you still have to resist it because it’s still there.
Revolving doors
The confession of sins is not taught in the body of Christ and if you look around you it is extremely rare to find someone who accepts Christ and 40 years later is still serving Him and has served Him consistently all that time. Normally people come and go and churches have revolving doors.
Let’s look at the parable of the sower. He sowed seed and some seed fell among the rocks, some fell on the road, some on good ground and it produced a crop. Seed is very expensive so looking at it from a different angle…..
Question: What farmer who wants to make a profit is going to take his precious seed and throw it on the road or amongst the rocks where he knows it’s not going to grow? The problem is the church doesn’t plough people’s lives and therefore when the seeds are planted, they end up falling away because it’s really hard to serve God when you have so much sin on your back. What is ploughing? Things like:
- Personal deliverance and dealing with sin in your life
- Effectively breaking curses over your life
- Breaking generational curses over your life
- Healing from all kinds issues that have affected your life
But there’s so much that comes under the covering of God’s mercy and grace and yes you can lose your salvation but I don’t think it’s something that can happen easily.
